SUMMARY:Summer Fundraiser with Nefesh Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a memorable evening of community\, cuisine\, and incredible music featuring Nefesh Mountain\, the acclaimed Jewish bluegrass band blending American folk traditions with spiritual roots. This special night supports AJC programming and brings us together in celebration and song. \nTickets required: Contact Jason Schnissel at director@aspenjewish.org or 970.925.8245 for ticket details and sponsorship opportunities. \nThe New York based Progressive Americana group Nefesh Mountain Band has been hailed as one of the formative boundary-pushing ensembles in roots music. The band’s creators and dynamic husband and wife team of Eric Lindberg and Doni Zasloff have created a world and sound all their own; blurring the lines between Americana\, Bluegrass\, Folk\, Jazz\, and Blues with a masterful hand as songwriters\, instrumentalists\, and composers. Nefesh Mountain has been proudly open and vocal about their background and heritage as Jewish Americans\, and are among the first preeminent Americana / Bluegrass bands to infuse Jewish tradition and soul into the beautifully diverse tapestry of American roots music.

SUMMARY:Cocktails & Conversation with Rabbi Elie Kaunfer
DESCRIPTION:The Mourner’s Kaddish\, the most misunderstood Jewish prayer \nEnjoy food\, drink\, and a fun\, substantive\, and reflective rabbi-led conversation before Shabbat services. \nJoin us as we explore the essence of the Mourner’s Kaddish\, perhaps the most misunderstood prayer in Judaism. We will ask questions such as: Why is this prayer said by mourners\, if it is not specifically related to death and mourning? What are the deeper theological claims of the prayer\, and how might we relate to them today? \nOur guest leader this week is Rabbi Elie Kaunfer\, President and CEO of the Hadar Institute. Elie proudly serves on the board of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. He has previously worked as a journalist\, banker\, and corporate fraud investigator. A graduate of Harvard College\, Elie completed his doctorate in liturgy at the Jewish Theological Seminary\, where he was also ordained. A Wexner Graduate Fellow and Dorot Fellow\, Elie is a co-founder of the independent minyan Kehilat Hadar and has been named multiple times to Newsweek’s list of the top 50 rabbis in America. He was selected as an inaugural AVI CHAI Fellow\, and is the author of Empowered Judaism: What Independent Minyanim Can Teach Us About Building Vibrant Jewish Communities. \n

SUMMARY:Mountaintop Shabbat & Jewish Bluegrass Concert
DESCRIPTION:A summer highlight\, this joyful\, music-filled Shabbat morning at 11\,212-ft. features Rabbi Shira and the incredible Jewish bluegrass band Jacob’s Ladder. A short service will be followed by lots of “get up and dance” music. Mountaintop Shabbat is community\, celebration\, and spirit – all set against a breathtaking backdrop. Please bring your friends and family\, something to sit on\, and a love of the mountains. Breakfast is on us! Underwritten by the Zilberman Family. \nJacob’s Ladder is an internationally touring band pushing the boundaries of contemporary Jewish music and traditional American Roots music through Jewish communal singing and prayer. In melding these two musical worlds\, they tell their story through Eastern European Ashkenazic and Sephardic Jewish traditions and their American heritage\, which influences their unique musical style. Jacob’s Ladder has been performing coast to coast and continues to shed light on the conversation of identity\, particularly regarding what it means to be an American Jew.
